Plans Gone Awry

Ancho Rubbed Pork Tenderloin

Ancho Rubbed Pork Tenderloin

I had big plans for tonight.  It involved a piece of pork tenderloin and one of my favorite Bobby Flay recipes.  But like mice and men, my best-laid scheme went horribly awry. Stuck at work.  Train delays. Just normal, everyday frustrations. But it meant that I didn’t have time to stop at the supermarket on the way home so I knew I would have to improvise a little.

Luckily, I love to improvise.  I rarely if ever follow a recipe to the letter and I enjoy the challenge of throwing something together with whatever is in my pantry and fridge.  It’s like my own personal Chopped episode. More often than not, the food turns out to be somewhere between strange and inedible.  But every once in a while, I manage to pull off something remarkable or at the very least intriguing.  Tonight’s dish was probably closer to the latter but there was something undeniably tasty about it.   Please, blog, may I have some more?

Dreamin’ of Montauk…

Fish Tacos

Fish Tacos

As I sat in my apartment on an especially cold and wintry weekend in Brooklyn, I naturally drifted back to warmer days of summer. Visions of hot sand, strong margaritas and fresh seafood danced through my mind as I pictured myself sitting on the beach in Montauk, a book in one hand, a cold beer in the other.

My wife and I have been going out to Montauk for years, as we have generous friends with a nice little condo situated right on the beach between Amagansett and Montauk.  There we get to play in the sand, relax and enjoy some of the best seafood the Northeast has to offer.  From lobster rolls to baked clams to fresh fish, everything tastes better out there.   Please, blog, may I have some more?
